SCUBA (Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus) tanks require air to be compressed into a tank to provide oxygen to breathe underwater. One limiting factor is the strength of the tanks under the high pressure of the compressed air, but another is the work involved to compress the air. Assuming that air acts as an ideal gas and stays at the same temperature, how much more work is required to compress the same initial volume of air to one tenth of its volume compared to one half of its volume?
