By creating a partial vacuum in your mouth, atmospheric pressure forces the liquid up the straw. The difference in pressures will work only to a certain height where the weight of the water in the straw will equal the force trying to equalize the pressures.
We ended up with a negative number because the water from which the person is drinking out of is 5.15 meters below the person. So they are 5.15 meters above the glass of water.
