How the Heck Do I Make A Problem????
Sort of a General Introduction
The problems in the U of O Physics Student Page were originally written
in LaTeX, and converted to hypertext (
LaTeX2HTML by Nikos Drakos. Because HTML does not natively support things
like tables and equations, this program reads LaTeX files and translates them
into HTML, making equations into inlined images. This may not be the perfect
solution, but it seems to work.
What do I need to do?
-
- 1. Dream up a good problem and solve it.
- 2. Write it up in LaTeX on whichever machine you choose, using
these example problems as a guide. Its important
when writing up the solution that you include a bit of explanation of what you
are doing, and best to write the solution as if you were explaining how to
solve the problem to the worst student.
- 3. When you are satisfied with your problem email the latex code
to dmason@zebu.uoregon.edu , and
he will try to convert it and add it to the U of O's collection of web problems.
- 4. If there are any figures that go with your problem they should be
sent somehow as well. (Because of the many possible incarnations figures can take
-- .eps, .gif, .jpg, ...etc, sending them ends up being more complicated. Perhaps
the easiest way to send them is to uuencode them and e-mail that file.)
- 5. When in doubt use your favorite means of communication (obscene gestures will be ignored...) to get a hold of
