FIZZLERS

  • Normal Stellar Evolution ====> Type II Supernovae

  • Fizzlers: What and Who are they?

  • Gravitational Wave (GW) Emission

Finn & Evans -- less than 10-8 Mc2 in GW
Centrella & coworkers -- up to 10-3 Mc2 in GW

Why the gross difference between the results?

  • Bar Instabilities:

Bar Mode structure for an n=1.5, n'=0, T/|W|=0.327 polytrope. Gravity wave pattern for a rotating nonaxisymmetric central disturbance.

The bar forms very quickly and settles into what appears to be a stable state. If future simulations verify this conjecture, then fizzlers will produce significant gravitational wave emission and may be viable targets for LIGO.
