ASTRONOMY 122:

We will study the structure and evolution of stars. The material is divided into 4 parts:
Why study stars? How do we study stars (with a particular emphasis on the properties of light). The basic properties of the stars. How the basic properties of stars are determined. The Quiet and Active Sun as paradigms for stellar structure and evolution. Chapters 3, 4, 16, & 17
III. The Lives of Normal Stars
IV. The Endpoints of Stellar Evolution
The material that will appear on each exam will be determined by how
far I get during lectures. The material covered will be announced
in the lecture before the exam. The following breakdowns
are tentative guidelines for the
material to be tested.
