Text:

Harrison, Cosmology: The Science of the Universe, Second Edition
Chaisson & McMillan, Astronomy Today, Fifth Edition
The text by Harrison is at a higher level than the one by Chaisson & McMillan. The course will be taught at the level of Chaisson & McMillan. It (Chaisson & McMillan) is more appropriate for this course than is the Harrison text. The Harrison text offers deeper and more detailed discussions of some of the things which I discuss in this class.

Grading:

Your course grade (A,B,C,D,F) will be based on:

    2 "mid-term" exams -- 100 points per exam
6 homework assignments -- 10 points per assignment
    1 final exam -- 200 points

    total points - - 460

      The final is cumulative.
A P (Pass) represents a performance of C- or better
