These are among the first insects to hatch in late winter. People don't seem to be sure whether fish like them or not. Apparently their nymphs like to live deeply buried in the rocks and gravel at the bottom of the river, so it is unlikely that they would become available to trout. The adults can be available, although only sporadically after mating, or by accident after falling off brush at the rivers edge.
Well, at least they kinda look cool.
If you really wanted to imitate one, a black minktail stone imitation would probably be sufficient...
