M8 is also knowns as the lagoon nebula.  This image has been
processed to reveal the dark (dust) lanes that are prominent
here.  The overall extent of the nebula is approximately 1 x 1/2
degrees.  M8 is ionized by one of the hottest stars in the
galaxy and the complex interplay between the ionizing radiation
and the scattering by the dust gives rise to the observed
structure of the nebula.
