M1 is also known as the Crab Nebula.  It is a remant of a supernova
that occured in 1054 AD.  The central star is actually a rotating 
neutron star and is called a pulsar.

This exposure was taken through a narrow band H-alpha filter to make
the filamentary structure stand out somewhat.
