Virtual Laboratory: Ideal Gas Law
Part 2
Overview
While there are several different kinds of experiments to do in this
general circuit applet, not all of them work correctly (yet).
For this procedure select the Kirchoff Loop Rule Applet.
Procedure
- Drag the 15 Volte battery to the red rectangle and drop
it there.
- Grab the ON/OFf switch and move it to the right of the
resistor labelled 4 and drop it there.
- Toggle the switch to the ON position so that the current flows.
- In this circuit the Voltage is 15 Volts and each of the resistors
has units of Ohms. Notice in the right hand object panel there is
a drill. That drill requires an operating voltage of 6 Volts.
If too much voltage goes to the drill it will blow up - if insufficient
voltage is available it will not operate. The drill can be placed
at any of the four "corners" of the circuit. Remembering OHMS
law do the following:
- What is the total current that must be running through
this loop?
- Since the Voltage is dropping across each resistor, you should
be able to determine which corner in this loop is the location
at which the drill will operate. Determine that corner and explain
why it operates there and not at other locations.
